Baby Boomers Turning 65

"We've Come A Long Way, Baby"

2011 marks the beginning of the Baby Boomer generation turning sixty-five. What a great run it's been, and "It ain't over yet, baby." The Boomer generation is defined as anyone born after World Was II, between 1946 and 1964, an eighteen year span that saw the excitment of the Moon Walk, Women's Rights, Civil Rights, the envrionmental movement. We saw a unique interest in social causes and individualism. We also lived through the heart break of assassination with the deaths John Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert Kennedy.

We faced world unrest beginning with the Cuban Missile Crisis, and then Viet Nam, Kent State, draft dodgers, protests, riots, and drug experimentation. We witnessed Woodstock and sexual freedom. We were most vocal when questioning our leaders and continue to be so today. I think that may be why so many of our older politicians are surprized with tea party rallies and those they call left wing extremists. These two groups are composed mainly of Baby Boomers who still won't shut-up and move to the back of the bus. For good or for bad, history will judge us. I tip my hat to my fellow boomers and say, "Carry on."

It's hard to believe some of the names on the list are that old. How did time go so fast!

What makes me feel good is how active most of them are. I hope no one thinks we baby boomers are going to stop playing a vital role in this world of ours.

Nice Hub! I was surprised to see Pat Sajak on the list. I'm a boomer myself but not in my sixties yet.

Thanks Charity-it was fun researching this and it makes me feel younger since most of those on the list are still very active and vital.
